Yolo CountyYolo Bypasswildlife area

Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area makes the valley feel wide. It sits near Davis and Sacramento, but the view quickly turns to wetlands, farmed fields, birds, levees, and open sky.

The wildlife area covers about 16,600 acres in the Pacific Flyway. Fish, waterfowl, shorebirds, wading birds, raptors, bats, turtles, toads, and other wildlife use the area. Visitors come for wildlife viewing, birdwatching, hunting seasons, and nature education.

It can be an easy outing if you treat it like a wildlife area instead of a city park. Access roads are unpaved, cell service can be limited, and some uses change by season.

Check CDFW ahead of time, especially in winter. High water can change access in parts of the area.
