A state park pass is not the same as every state park fee
California State Parks fees are not all the same. At most parks that charge for day use, the fee is per vehicle for parking. State historic parks and parks with museums may charge per person instead. Walking or biking into many vehicle-fee parks is free, but the individual park page controls.
Before buying a pass or promising a free day, check the park’s current fee page and the pass terms. The amount, vehicle size, entry type, and whether a particular pass is accepted can change the answer.
