Track the ballot, but still meet the Election Day return rules
Where's My Ballot tracks mailed, received, and counted status, but it does not extend California's postmark, receipt, or drop-off deadlines.
Sign up for Where’s My Ballot for updates by text, email, or voice. It can tell you when a vote-by-mail ballot is mailed, received, and counted. The service is in every California county. But tracking does not replace signing and returning the ballot the right way.
Sign the return envelope. A ballot taken to a drop box, polling place, or elections office must arrive by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. A mailed ballot must have a postmark on or before Election Day. The county must receive it no later than 7 days after Election Day.
Tracking does not extend these dates. It also does not make an uncorrected ballot count. Contact the county elections office right away if the ballot is missing or the status stalls. Do the same if an alert says the signature is missing or does not match. Follow the replacement or signature-cure deadline in the official notice. A cure is the process for fixing the signature problem. Those deadlines are set for each election.
