Tracy's Grand Theatre keeps a 1923 stage in daily use

The Grand Theatre in downtown Tracy began as a 1923 vaudeville and movie house and now works as a city arts center with performances, classes, exhibits, and rentals.

TracyGrand TheatreDowntown

Downtown Tracy has a story you can still walk into. The Grand Theatre began as a vaudeville and movie house in 1923, back when a night out might mean a stage act, a film, or both.

Today it is the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts, run as a public arts place with performances, classes, exhibits, tours, volunteer roles, and rental spaces. The main theatre has been remodeled, but the old idea is still easy to understand: a central place where the town gathers around music, theatre, film, art, and school groups.

That is why the Grand works as a civic anchor with more to offer than a pretty building. Tracy can keep adding new neighborhoods, but the old theatre still pulls attention back to Central Avenue.
