Lancaster alerts and cooling centers are high-desert basics

Alert Lancaster carries local notices, while the cooling-center page distinguishes county-listed public sites from the city center that opens only when activated.

Lancasteremergency alertsheat

Alert Lancaster is the city’s notification system for local information such as earthquakes, high winds, road closures, and other important updates. Register before a heat or wind event and update the account after a phone or address change.

The cooling-center page needs a second look before you travel. It lists Los Angeles County public facilities that may offer a cool indoor place during normal operating hours, and it separately explains that the City of Lancaster Cooling Center opens under extreme conditions when the city activates it. A listing alone does not show that a site is open at this moment.

On a dangerous heat day, check the latest page and call the listed facility or city contact when confirmation matters. Hours, activation status, pet access, and transportation can change. For a medical emergency or signs of severe heat illness, call 911 rather than treating a cooling-center search as the first step.

The useful household plan is alerts on, water and medication ready, and two realistic indoor options in case the first one is closed or hard to reach.
