Westmorland shows how Imperial Valley towns turn water into farm life

Westmorland is a small Imperial Valley city with farm-country roots, local public works, canal-fed water, and a honey festival tradition.

Westmorland is small, but it sits inside a major farm landscape. It is an Imperial Valley town, so fields, canals, roads, and heat are part of the everyday picture. This is a road-and-farm town, not a tourist strip.

The water piece helps the place make sense. The local public works department runs its own water and sewer plants. Its main water source comes through the All-American Canal and the Westmorland Canal.

Zoom out one step and the scale gets clearer. IID has more than 3,000 miles of canals and drains. Its boundary covers about 1 million acres. It delivers water for farms, cities, industry, and other local uses. Most IID water in the Imperial Valley goes to farming. So when you see fields around Westmorland, you are also seeing a huge public water system at work.

The local Honey Festival adds a warmer town layer. The Imperial Valley Regional Chamber listed the 20th annual Westmorland Honey Festival and parade for January 2026, with food, vendors, music, contests, and a Honey Run. Event details change, so check the current city or chamber calendar before making plans.

Westmorland is a simple-looking place with a very California backstory: desert heat, farm fields, canal water, public works, and a small community that turns farm life into a gathering day.
