TorranceAlerts works through several alert paths

TorranceAlerts is the city’s main alert system. It sends messages when people need to act. The message may say to leave, avoid an area, or stay inside. It can come by phone call, text, email, or the mobile app.

There are three paths. First, all Torrance home landlines are already in its records, even unlisted numbers. Second, you can sign up to add mobile numbers, text, and email. Your account lets you pick alert types and the order used to reach you. Keep it current. Add every number at your address that you want the city to try.

Third, public warnings can use IPAWS instead of your account. A Wireless Emergency Alert can reach a phone in the danger area with no signup. Phone settings and reception still matter. Emergency Alert System messages come through radio and TV. A phone may get a WEA even if it is not in your TorranceAlerts account.

Current Torrance notices and active evacuation zones are on separate live pages. The account sends messages. The pages show what is happening now. City sirens are another warning tool. If one sounds outside a planned test, look for official instructions at once.

The home plan can stay short. Write down who to call and where to meet. Share and practice the plan. Torrance says to keep at least three days of food, water, medicine, and other supplies. Protect copies of IDs, prescriptions, and insurance papers too.
