Santa Clarita business license questions may go through the county
Santa Clarita does not issue city business licenses, so business owners should check Los Angeles County's license rules and confirm the address, activity, and jurisdiction before applying.
Santa Clarita business licensing has a local twist. The city helps with business resources and permits, but it does not issue or require its own city business license.
That does not always mean there is no license question. Los Angeles County handles certain business licenses for unincorporated areas and for contract cities that include Santa Clarita. The county path asks you to check the business address and then see whether the business activity is one the county licenses.
This is especially useful for people opening a storefront, home business, mobile business, contractor operation, studio work, or service business in the Santa Clarita Valley. City limits, county rules, and the type of work can all matter.
Start with the exact address and a plain description of the business. If the question is construction or site work, Santa Clarita’s permit center is a separate lane from the county license check.
