China Camp gives San Rafael bay marsh, trails, and history

China Camp State Park gives San Rafael a bayfront park with salt marsh, oak woodland, trails, beach access, and Chinese American fishing-village history.

San RafaelChina CampSan Pablo Bay

China Camp is one of San Rafael’s richest local places because it carries several stories at once. It is a state park along San Pablo Bay, with shoreline, oak woodland, trails, and protected tidal salt marsh.

The park covers about 1,514 acres and includes more than 100 acres of tidal marsh. Visitors can hike, ride horses, boat, fish, use the beach, visit the museum, and explore about 15 miles of trails. The reserve setting also makes it part of the Bay’s larger habitat story.

Then there is the human history. China Camp is tied to a Chinese American fishing village, so Bay ecology and local community history sit together here. Confirm fees, hours, trail conditions, and museum access on the park pages.
