Almanac note · Money and taxes
Riverside County property tax has two main doors
For Riverside County property tax, parcel value questions start with the Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, while bills and payments start with the Tax Collector.
In Riverside County, property tax questions usually have two doors. One door is value. The other door is the bill.
Use the Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder for value, owner records, parcel details, exemptions, and changes after a sale or transfer.
Use the Treasurer-Tax Collector for bills, payments, late charges, and extra tax bills after a sale or value change.
This comes up a lot after buying a house in Riverside, Corona, Moreno Valley, Temecula, Palm Desert, or a county area outside city limits. A new owner may see a regular tax bill. A second bill can come later after the value changes.
Keep the parcel number, property address, bill year, and notice date nearby. If the question is about value, start with the assessor side. If the question is about payment, start with the collector side.
