Perris keeps a big rail museum on the edge of town

The Southern California Railway Museum gives Perris a major railroad collection, weekend train and trolley rides, and a link to the older Perris Depot story.

Perris has a lake, skydiving, newer housing, and a growing Inland Empire feel. It also has one of the region’s best hands-on rail stories sitting on more than 100 acres.

The Southern California Railway Museum moved to Perris in 1956. Today it holds locomotives, railcars, trolleys, narrow-gauge pieces, model trains, and other rail history. Weekend train and trolley rides are part of the draw, with tickets handled at the gift store. That makes the museum feel more active than a row of parked equipment.

The location fits Perris well because the city already has an old rail thread. The Perris Station, also known as the Santa Fe Depot, was built in 1892 to serve the city. Put the depot and the museum together, and Perris reads less like a bedroom community and more like a place where transportation shaped the map.

For families, train fans, or anyone trying to understand the area, this is a strong stop because it turns a big regional story into something you can walk around and ride. Railroads helped build inland Southern California. In Perris, that history is not tucked away in a footnote; it has room to breathe, with tracks, cars, events, and weekend motion.
