Ontario building permits start with the permit portal
Ontario’s building permit pages send many permit and plan questions through the city’s permit portal. That is where a resident or contractor can check plan check status, permit status, and other building permit details.
In a fast-growing city with older neighborhoods, warehouses, airport-area properties, and new housing nearby, the address and scope can change the path. A small reroof, solar project, tenant improvement, or room addition may follow a different route once the city sees the details.
Before using the portal, gather the property address, project description, owner or contractor contact, and any plan check or permit number you already have. If the question is about zoning, height, or what can be built on the lot, the building page also points people toward Planning.
Counter hours and staff meeting closures can change how a same-day visit goes, so check the official page before driving to City Hall.
