NAS Lemoore is a huge aviation neighbor in farm country
Naval Air Station Lemoore gives the Kings County farm landscape a major Navy layer, with a base commissioned in 1961 and tied to carrier aviation.
Lemoore has a farm-town setting, but it also has a major aviation story. Naval Air Station Lemoore was commissioned in July 1961. The Navy identifies it as its largest Master Jet Base.
The location makes sense when you look at the land around it. The Navy wanted room for flight operations and future growth. It also needed to stay close enough to seaport support. The wide farm landscape helped make that possible.
Today, NAS Lemoore is closely tied to carrier aviation. It hosts strike fighter squadrons, Fleet Replacement squadrons, search and rescue, and west coast carrier air wing commands and staff.
For most readers, this is less of a casual visitor stop and more of a key to understanding Lemoore. If you hear aircraft, meet Navy families, or notice how much the local economy turns around the base, this is the reason.
