Almanac note · Rules and licenses
Gilroy permits and business licenses use different online paths
Gilroy uses GO Permit for project permits and inspections, while business licenses are handled through the city's HdL business-license service.
Gilroy has two online paths that are easy to mix up. One is for project permits. The other is for business licenses. They can both matter for a new shop, tenant space, food business, contractor job, or sign change.
GO Permit is the city system for building, planning, engineering encroachment, and fire permits. It lets people submit applications, track plan review, schedule inspections, and view inspection status and results.
Business licenses use Gilroy’s HdL service. Businesses can apply, renew, pay, and update a license online, and the page also gives phone, email, and mail contacts.
For Gilroy, ask what you are trying to move forward. If it is the work on the space, start with GO Permit. If it is permission for the business to operate in the city, start with the business-license path.
