Fontana's Art Depot turns a freight stop into a local gallery

FontanaArt Depot GalleryPacific Electric Trail

Fontana has a strong transportation story, and the Art Depot Gallery keeps a small piece of it easy to see. The building began as a freight train depot in 1915. Today it sits by the Pacific Electric Trail in Helen Putman Historical Plaza.

That reuse is the charm. A building that once fit rail work now supports local art, classes, exhibits, meetings, and community events. It gives Fontana a softer stop along a corridor that also speaks to freight, commuting, warehouses, roads, and the Inland Empire’s long habit of moving things.

The depot is useful because it makes local history feel close and practical. You do not need to know every railroad line to get the idea. The building itself says plenty: Fontana grew around movement, and the city has found a way to keep one old working piece in public life.

For a simple visit, pair the gallery with a short walk on the trail or a look around the plaza.
