Encinitas business and permit chores both start online
Encinitas requires business registration for businesses based in or operating in the city, while planning, building, engineering, fire, and special event permits move through CSS.
Encinitas uses two important online paths that can meet at the same address. Business registration is for the business activity. Customer Self Service, often called CSS, is for permit applications such as planning, building, engineering, fire, and special event work.
The business registration rule is broad. It can cover a business based in Encinitas, a business from another city that works in Encinitas, a home business, rental income from property in the city, some event selling, and recreation or personal services offered at city beaches, parks, buildings, or private spaces.
Planning can come before the business registration if the use or location needs a zoning check. That is helpful in a coastal city with beach areas, older corridors, home businesses, Cardiff, Leucadia, downtown, and other places where the exact parcel can change the answer.
For permits, Encinitas accepts planning, building, engineering, fire, and special event applications through CSS, and paper submittals are no longer the regular path. Before applying, gather the address, business activity, project type, and clean digital files.
