Almanac note · Home and property
El Cajon sewer billing is not the same as the water bill
El Cajon utility questions are easier when you separate sewer from the other services. The city handles wastewater and sewer billing questions. Gas and electric service runs through SDG&E. Trash and recycling run through EDCO. Water can be Padre Dam Municipal Water District or Helix Water District, depending on the address.
Sewer charges have their own local wrinkle. For property owners, El Cajon sewer service charges appear through the San Diego County property tax invoice. When a home is sold, prorated sewer charges are usually handled in escrow.
If you are moving, buying, or helping a renter, start with the address and the exact service you mean. Water service and city sewer charges may not be handled by the same office.
