Water notices do not all mean the same thing

State Water Board drinking-water pages separate public notices, Consumer Confidence Reports, and unsafe-water notice types, so the wording matters.

A water notice is one of those messages where the exact words matter. Boil water is one message. Do not drink is another. Do not use is different again. An annual water-quality report is its own thing.

The State Water Board has public notice pages for drinking-water systems. It also has Consumer Confidence Report information for customers. Those pages help separate a short-term notice from a regular annual report.

If a notice arrives, read the title, area, date, water system name, and instructions. Look for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, pets, ice, filters, and bottled water. Do not assume boiling fixes every kind of notice. For the household file, save the water system name and annual report link.
